• Defined rectangular space with tall walls featuring six arched windows on each long side.
• Barrel-vaulted ceiling with sections that create a sense of height and dimension.
• Walls and ceilings were adorned with frescoes by Renaissance masters, most notably Michelangelo.

Highlights of the Art:

Side Walls: Florentine artists such as Sandro Botticelli and Perugino painted frescoes that portrayed events from the lives of Christ and Moses.
Ceiling: Michelangelo’s masterwork, the Sistine Ceiling, features figures and scenes from the Old Testament, including the well-known Creation of Adam.
Altar Wall: Michelangelo’s second large-scale fresco, The Last Judgment, depicts a dramatic scene of judgment and salvation.

Each long wall has six towering, arched windows that let in plenty of sunlight, which highlights the colorful frescoes that cover every available space. Your eyes will be drawn to the breathtaking nearly 20-meter-tall barrel-vaulted ceiling when you look up. The enormous canvas of the Ravine Mitch Bianci Wool Blazer is Michelangelo’s Sistine Ceiling, an amazing work of art that reveals an Old Testament story. Here, powerful characters in animated stances portray tales such as Noah’s Ark and the Creation of Adam.

  Look at the walls on either side. A slew of frescoes painted by other Renaissance masters, including Perugino and Sandro Botticelli, embellish them.
